It's that time of year when I can no longer ignore the deadline that is looming, so on my needles this week is a pair of bedsocks for my son. I am using a pattern from a book called Learn to Knit Socks by Company's Coming. The pattern is easy and quick to knit but I have still managed to make a few mistakes on the first sock but they will just have to add to its charm as there is not time to start again. As usual I am white knuckle knitting, using the remains of three different navaho plied merino yarns so fingers crossed that I will have enough to finish the project.
I am also spinning like mad to get two bobbins of black alpaca ready to ply (hopefully tomorrow) for my daughter's spiral slouchy. I will then have to spin the red merino for the spirals. The alpaca is filthy and will take quite a bit of washing to be ready for knitting.
I am still reading The Story of You by Kate Regan. I am enjoying it but not so much that it demands to be read beyond breakfast time. It tends to jump around from letters to dreams to memories to present time action so it is not so likely to engross me so much that I neglect other things which on one hand is a good thing but on the other hand I would quite like to be immersed for a day or two this week. Yesterday I started to listen to the next in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon - A Breath of Snow and Ashes, too early to say how it will be but I have high hopes as I have enjoyed the whole series so far.

I don't know how to knit, only crochet. I tried to make my brother some socks for Christmas (first socks EVER) and I won't lie, it's NOT working! Eeek! I don't think making socks is right for me. The yarn is way too tiny I can't see what I'm doing! I'm impressed you were able to get that much done!
ReplyDeleteHi Tangerinewallpaper, I found socks tricky the first couple of times but you get used to it after a while. Tiny yarn would take ages but the yarn I have used is my own handspun plied to make it three ply, as in three strands, so it is quite bulky and therefore very quick to get results with - the only way to go at this stage!
Deletethose socks will be great! I hear you on the looming holiday knits deadline. full steam ahead! I am interested in seeing your daughters hat. I made my first hat last week and loved it. Making another for gifts at the moment. Good luck and hope you have enough yarn for the sock!
ReplyDeleteoh just saw you have twins! me too. boys. They are almost grown up on me now though they will always be the babies of the family :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanette, I will post pictures of the hat when it is finished - the alpaca is now drying and I'm going to spin the red tomorrow hopefully. I am going to have to knit like mad to get it done in time! Twins are brilliant aren't they? I have so enjoyed it every step of the way but now they are teenagers and I can't believe how the time has flown.
