Proper Woolly

There is so much to write about this week that I am not sure where to start! Last week was half term so the children and I took the train up to see Granny and Grandad. I love the train journey from Cornwall to London as for a short part of the journey the track runs alongside the sea. This link should take you to YouTube for the train driver's view. It is beautiful though I have been in the train with the spray from stormy waves splashing up onto the windows before. I have to admit that was a little nerve wracking! Whilst visiting my parents we took the children to the Warner Brothers' Harry Potter studios for a special day out. Oh my goodness, there are some serious Harry Potter fans out there! It was a really good day and the children enjoyed seeing all the sets and finding out about how the films were made. Yarn Along

There is so much happening here at Misty Cottage that my head is in a whirl - in a good way! Craftwise I have been very productive; spinning, wet felting, needle felting, and knitting. As I am joining in with Ginny for the Yarn Along today I'll just write a little about what I have been knitting. You may remember that last time I joined in I was knitting a scarf with some of my handspun merino plied with a beaded holographic thread. Well I decided that I wouldn't have enough yarn to get a good scarf length so I frogged it and have decided to knit a cowl instead. I have to say it is very squishy and warm and soft and lovely! I have just spun some similar yarn with different shades of blue and a blue metallic thread with pink beads. I haven't set the twist yet but it is looking good so far. Who'd Have Thought It ...

... could be so difficult to count up to 297?! It has taken me 5 attempts to cast on 297 stitches so far. Every time I count them I get a different total and it is driving me to distraction. Has anyone out there in Giny's Yarn Along got any hints or tips on how to do this painlessly? I am trying to cast on my first shawl, ostensibly to extend my lace knitting skills but also of course to justify this beautiful yarn which I spun from 100g of hand dyed, slinky, silk/yak blend. The fibre was an impulse buy from a lovely chap on Ravelry called Longdrawjames who was undertaking such a massive destash that I felt it would have been positively churlish not to have helped him out a bit. He, in turn, had bought the fibre from Mandacrafts who had actually dyed it – it is the Estuary colour way.
